On January 17, Boryung announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (KOFAC) yesterday to foster youth space talent and promote the science and technology sector.
Boryung stated that it will keenly cooperate with KOFAC in ▲developing cooperative projects for fostering space talent ▲, exchanging program information, collaborating in promotion ▲, and jointly hosting and operating domestic and international events under the theme 'Our Children's Dream to Space.'
Firstly, the two entities will co-host a youth space contest, 'Humans In Space Youth (HIS Youth),' targeting elementary, middle, and high school students in Korea. HIS Youth, which aims to showcase creative ideas about space, will begin the application announcement and registration in H1 2024.
Boryung launched the Care In Space (CIS) Challenge in 2022 to create a space healthcare ecosystem. In 2023, it co-hosted the Humans In Space (HIS) Challenge and Symposium with ASCEND, the largest space industry conference in Las Vegas, U.S.
While Boryung plans to expand its global partnerships further through the HIS program this year, it aims to establish and operate the HIS Youth in collaboration with KOFAC to support Korean teenagers exploring the space sector.
The HIS Youth program will provide the education and consulting of experts for the selected teams. Upon completing education, the teams will also be able to participate in Boryung's HIS program overseas this year. Moreover, Boryung will discuss various collaborations related to HIS Youth, including benefits for the selected teams, with its partner Axiom Space and subsidiary BRAX Space.
In addition to HIS Youth, Boryung plans to continue strengthening cooperation with KOFAC to foster space talent and promote Korea's science and technology sector.
Yul Rae Cho, President of KOFAC, stated, 'It is crucial to secure talents with expertise and insight into the future for ensuring global competitiveness in the space industry.' He also said, 'It is significant to foster future space talent together with Boryung through this MoU.'
Jay Kim, Chairman and CEO of Boryung, said, 'It is essential for Korea to make various efforts to ensure competitiveness in the global space industry, including consistently fostering the second and third generations of astronauts and securing a prominent position in the core infrastructure of space.' He added, 'I hope this MoU will be a momentum for more talents to become interested in the space industry.'
